Day 1

Arrival into JRO and transferred to Arusha

Welcome to Tanzania! You will be greeted and then transferred to Salinero in Moshi for Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2

Lemosho Trailhead to Lemosho Forest Camp

After an early breakfast, transfer by air – conditioned shuttles to the Londorossi Gate at Mt Kilimanjaro National Park which is approximately 4 hours from Arusha. On arrival at the gate we will complete the registration formalities & transfer to the starting point of the trek, the Lemosho Trail head, where we will stop for lunch (lunch box & water) before commencing the trek through the rainforest to Forest Camp. This part of the trek is always popular with trekkers due to the scenery and the chance to spot wildlife like elephants, buffalo, black and white colobus & Blue Monkeys that call this part of Mt Kilimanjaro home.

Day 3

Lemosho Forest Camp to Shira Camp 1

The Target is in site! If you are lucky you will catch your first glimpse of Kibo today!

The morning will commence with breakfast service which is supervised by the guides and assistant guides to ensure food and beverage service is on time and to also make a daily assessment of each of the guests under their supervision. After a filling breakfast, commence the trek to Shira Camp1. The trek will take guests through the last section of the rainforest path before entering the moorland zone. A hot lunch will be served and water refilled. After lunch guests will continue trek along the Shira Plateau to Shira Camp 1. This trek is a little steeper and guests will be instructed to walk very slowly to maximize acclimatization.

Zone: Rainforest / Low Alpine Zone

Day 4

Shira 1 Camp to Moir Hut

Today we will trek through one of the highest plateaus on Earth, the Shira Plateau.

As usual, guides and assistants will wake up the group with cups of tea/coffee and make their morning assessments of the each member prior to commencing the trek. After breakfast, commence the gentre trek east through the Shira Plateau passing through the “garden of Senecios’ up into the high alpine zone to Moir Hut. This is a little used site on the base of Lent Hills. A variety of walks are available on Lent Hills making this an excellent acclimatization opportunity. We highly recommend these activities in the evening to maximize acclimatisation.

Lunch will be served at “Scott Fisher’s Camp” before continuing to Moir Hut.

Dinner and overnight at Moir Hut Camp.

Day 5

Moir Hut to Pofu Camp

After breakfast and the daily guide assessment of the group, trekking will commence and involves a moderately steep climb out of Moir Valley. From there the route follows a series or inclines and declines, skirting around the northern slopes of Kibo to Pofu Camp and offers great views out across the plains that lie north of Kilimanjaro right to the Tanzanian / Kenyan border.

On arrival to Pofu Camp just after midday you will be rewarded with a freshly prepared hot lunch and a chance to relax for the rest of the day. This is also an opportunity to fill water bottles. Dinner and overnight at Pofu Camp.

Day 6

Pofu Camp to Third Cave Camp

Today is a relatively short trek to Third Cave and takes only about 5 hours to complete. The trek is relatively consistent elevation, declining gently to the camp. Lunch will be served on arrival to the camp and fresh food supplies will be delivered to the camp. Trekkers are encouraged to rest till mid afternoon before commencing the night trek, a 1 hour trek at higher altitude towards Kibo hut before returning back to camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 7

Third Cave Camp to School Hut

This is another short day of trekking, only 6km in distance to the base camp at School hut, though the pace of trekking is controlled very carefully by the guides as this day is normally used to assess the level of fitness of the group. The assessment helps to determine the most appropriate starting time of the Summit ascent. On arrival to School Hut, a hot lunch will be prepared, after which trekkers are encouraged to rest as much as possible. An early dinner will be served and a summit brief delivered by the guides to the group to ensure everyone is well prepared with the right equipment and knowledge to maximize summit success. More sleep is encouraged as all the group will be woken up for the summit attempt.

Day 8

School Hut to Uhuru Peak to Millennium Camp

Rise at 23:30hrs for a “midnight breakfast”, before commencing the steep incline up the slopes of Kibo under the cover of darkness.

You will pass a series of checkpoints, the first being Hans Meyer Cave where you will stop for a quick break. The next will be Gilman’s Point (5,681m), which is normally reached at the break of dawn (after 5-6 hours of trekking), offering sweeping views across the Mawenzi Peak. An additional 1-2 hours of trekking to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Group celebratory photos will be taken at the summit, and a short moment spent enjoying the momentus occasion before commencing the descent to Millenium Camp for your final night on the mountain.

Trekking time: 6-8 hrs ascent, 4-6 hours descent.

Altitude: 5,895m to 3,950m

Day 9

Millennium Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi

The final day starts at the camp with a celebration! After group photos are taken, the group will enjoy a short hike through the montane rainforest to Mweka Gate where a celebratory hot lunch with beer and drinks is waiting. Trekkers will be presented with their Kilimanjaro certificates and congratulated by the trekking team. All guests will be transferred back to accommodation in Moshi.

Day 10

Moshi to Kilimanjaro International Airport

After breakfast you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departing flight. End of tour.
