The Great Apes & Primates of Rwanda & Uganda
Discover the best of East Africa’s primate habitats on a journey that combines Rwanda’s Mountain Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park with chimpanzee tracking in Uganda’s Kibale Forest National Park, home to 13 primate species including red-tailed, blue, and black-and-white colobus monkeys.
The adventure begins in Kigali, Rwanda’s clean and modern capital, before travelling north to the volcanic slopes of the Virunga Mountains. Here, guests will join guided gorilla treks led by expert rangers, spending an hour observing these powerful yet peaceful creatures in their natural environment — an experience that remains one of the most sought-after wildlife encounters in the world.
Crossing into Uganda, the journey continues to Kibale Forest, a protected tropical rainforest recognised for its high density of primates and rich biodiversity. Guests will track chimpanzees in their natural habitat, observe other species of monkeys, and explore the surrounding communities to learn about conservation and local life.
