DAY 1

Dar es Salaam to Ruaha National Park

Your safari will commence with a charter flight from Dar Es Salaam domestic Airport to Ruaha National Park. The game viewing starts the moment the plane touches down as herds of giraffe and elephant quite frequently inhabit the area surrounding the airstrip. You will arrive in time for lunch at your accommodation,  setting off on afternoon game drive.

Ruaha River Lodge

The lodges proximity to the Ruaha River provides ample opportunity to hear and see animals coming to drink at night. Game is undisturbed and often seen in between the sprawling accommodation areas, all of which have river views. Sandy, stone-lined pathways lead to Ruaha River Lodge’s bedrooms, 28 detached cottages, or ‘bandas’, built of solid stone along the river. Each is incredibly spacious and very comfortable, with a large veranda equipped with a couple of directors’ chairs, providing a peaceful place to watch animals coming down to the river to drink.
Mdonyo Old River Camp
Mdonyo Old River Camp - Comfort Plus
With just 11 twin or double bedded tents, all with en-suite out door facilities, Mdonya Old River is a small camp offering a personal service designed to each clients’ needs. The tents are simple yet comfortable, furnished with twin or double beds veiled by mosquito net with fairly large verandas where clients can relax and observe wildlife as it rambles down the old river bed. Located right at the centre of a wilderness area, the dining and lounge tents are under sycamore fig trees overlooking the dry riverbed, sitting in the camp with a book and a pair of binoculars may be quite rewarding.

DAY 2

Ruaha National Park

Spend  a full day exploring the unspoiled natural wilderness of Ruaha National Park. Due to its remote location very few people visit this park, but those that do are treated to unsurpassable wilderness and complete isolation. The park is teeming with millions of animals and vast herds characterise the wildlife experience. There are many activities that are available, including evening and afternoon game drives, bird watching safaris, game walks and photography safaris. Lunch at lodge.

DAY 3

Ruaha National Park

Today you will enjoy another full day of activities in Ruaha National Park. Ruaha is a rugged wilderness that is characterised by dry slopes covered in dense woodland and wide open plains dotted with baobabs. Ruaha is an important refuge for the African wild dog. It boasts one of Africa’s densest elephant populations as well as vast herds of buffalo stretching off into the horizon. Cheetah can be found surveying the open plains and you may also spot one of the 20 prides of lions that roam the park. In the dry season(May-November) you may also choose to enjoy a walk with the park ranger. Walks leave early in the morning or at 4 in the afternoon. Return to your accommodation in time to enjoy a sundowner before your evening meal

DAY 4

Ruaha to Selous Game Reserve

After a leisurely breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your short flight to Selous Game Reserve. You will then commence your game drive en-route to your accommodation, in time to enjoy lunch. In the afternoon you will enjoy a game drive. Your camp is located on the banks of the Rufiji River where you will be entertained by the different species of wildlife that inhabit its waterways. There is a constant flow of animals coming down to drink at the river. There are also hippo and crocodile that can be seen sunning themselves on the sandy bank of the river. You may also choose to enjoy a boat safari on the river, enabling you to drift quietly and observe the large hippo pods, elephants drinking on the shoreline or the many bird species that rely on this water source. You can also set off on foot, on a walking safari, sneaking up quietly on terrestrial game, or of course if you don’t feel that adventurous there is always the open top vehicle safaris. The choice is yours.

Rufiji River Camp is situated in the heart of the Selous Game Reserve. The camp consists of 14 west facing tents, all of which house comfortable beds with mosquito netting, together with all the luxuries and comforts of a quality camp. Each tent has its own private walled bath, and is sheltered by Makuti thatch roofs, providing a cool and tranquil veranda space ideal for reading, writing or just relaxing. The tents are all equipped with electricity supplied by means of solar energy for heating water, running water pumps, charging laptop or camera batteries The central part of the camp hosts a restaurant, bar and a library, all with a view of the river and the sunset. The central restaurant provides excellent exotic and international cuisine. There is a well stocked bar, giving guests a wide choice of beverages right in the wilderness.

Lake Manze is one of the richest game areas in Selous Game Reserve, both in the dry and wet season. Docum palms and Terminalia offer shade to the 12 tents which are well spread out, nearly invisible to each other and with good views of the lake. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with flush toilet and solar powered hot shower. The tents are spacious and have a comfortable veranda, so that you may sit, relax and watch the animals as they pass by. Elephants do come to drink in Lake Manze, using the old well-worn elephant trail, which runs around the lake and right in front of the camp.

DAY 5

Selous Game Reserve

Spend a full day of game viewing in Selous Game Reserve. You may choose to join a morning game drive, followed by an afternoon guided walking safari or boat ride.
