DAY 1

Dar to Mahale Mountains National Park

This morning you will depart for Mahale Mountains National Park. Enjoy an early morning charter flight from Arusha Airport directly to Mahale. After touching down on the airstrip you will be transferred by traditional dhow boat to your luxury accommodation at the stunning in time for lunch. The dhow cruise  is a magical entrance to the world of Mahale. The staff will warmly welcome you and you will enjoy lunch at the lodge. After lunch you will enjoy a chimp trek into the pristine Mahale Mountain jungle.

Overlooking the crystal clear waters of Lake Tanganyika with breathtaking sunsets, on a stretch of golden sandy beach, the recently refurbished Kungwe Beach Lodge is the perfect blend of comfort and luxury in a romantic setting. The light, airy and spacious tents are furnished in the traditional safari style and face the magnificent sunsets over the mountains of the Congo. Candlelit dinners are served on the beach, or in the dining area, to the unique sounds of Africa.
Greystoke Mahale
Greystoke Mahale - Luxury
The bandas at Greystoke Mahale are tucked back into the forest line, so that your only view is of the beach and the lake. The rooms are almost entirely constructed from sustainable materials sourced from Lake Tanganyika. All wood was reclaimed from wrecked or retired dhows bought from villages along the lakeshore. Old fisherman’s canoes have been used to make ladders and palm trees generated the thatch for the roofs of the bandas. The main mess banda is the only structure on the beach and it is the focal point of the camp. From here you can gaze out over the turquoise waters of Lake Tanganyika towards the mountains of the Congo.

DAY 2 & 3

Mahale National Park

For the next 2 days you will arise to a delicious breakfast at the lodge. After enjoying breakfast you will trek to enjoy the habituated ‘M’ group of chimpanzees as they groom, squabble and delight you with their animated antics. The ‘M’(Mimikire) troop is numbered at approximately 56 chimps. During your hike to the chimps you will find yourself immersed in the sights and sounds of Mahale. You can also join one of the other activities which includes a boat safari or kayaking.

DAY 4

Kigoma to Dar es Salaam

On your last day you will enjoy a leisurely breakfast and you will sadly bid Mahale Mountains National Park goodbye as we make our way back to the Mahale Airstrip. The dhow cruise takes about 1.5 hours and you will get to take your last photos of this paradise. Enjoy an aerial perspective of Mahale as you fly over the mountains and head back to Dar es Salaam where your safari concludes.
