DAY 1

Tarangire National Park

At 0700hr the day starts with an early morning safety talk and briefing by your SafariHQ guide. You will then commence the short 2 hour drive to Tarangire National Park, entering for  a day of game viewing. Tarangire is famous for its large elephant herds and equally large Baobab trees that scatter the landscape of the park. Spend the evening in the middle of Tarangire National Park camping at one of the many public campsites.

Tarangire Campsite
A large swampy plateau on the eastern end of Tarangire national park. It is one of the major sources of the Tarangire river, soaking up water during the rainy season and slowly releasing it for the rest of the year.

DAY 2

Lake Manyara National Park

Depart Tarangire and enter Lake Manyara National Park for a day of game viewing. Lake Manyara boasts a diverse and varied terrains, with two thirds of the park being covered by the Lake.  The Park is famous for its tree climbing lions, huge variety of bird life, the largest baboon troop, the flamingoes and of course many other species of wildlife. Drive to the Ngorongoro Crater Rim for an overnight stay at Simba Campsite.

Simba Campsite lies on the very rim of Ngorongoro Crater and has an excellent view across the caldera. A fantastic sunrise over the crater rim opposite makes a fine breakfast scene. Often there are elephants wandering around the camp! Facilities at Simba Campsite are basic but this is more than made up for by the atmosphere of this camp in the clouds. Guests are reminded not to keep any food in their tents whilst staying at Simba Campsite – unwelcome visitors such a bush pigs and hyena may be attracted.

DAY 3

Ngorongoro Crater

Rise before dawn for a short drive to the Ngorongoro Crater. Enjoy a picturesque drive as we descend to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater for a day of game viewing.  Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Forming a spectacular bowl of approximately 265 square kilometres, with sides up to 600 metres deep, it is home to approximately 30,000 animals at any one time.  Ngorongoro Crater is home to the very last few black rhino left in East Africa.

Chances of encountering leopard and cheetah are good, and the always majestic black maned lion. Many flamingos can also been seen on the soda waters of Lake Magadi. Expect to see Wildebeest, Zebra, Eland, Gazelle and Lions. Higher up on the rim of the crater is where you may be able to spot leopard, elephant, mountain reedbuck, buffalo, hyena, jackals and cheetah.

 Ascend the crater in the early afternoon as we make our way back to Arusha where the wildlife safari ends

The name of the crater has an onomatopoeic origin; it was named by the Maasai pastoralists after the sound produced by the cowbell (ngoro ngoro). Based on fossil evidence found at the Olduvai Gorge, various hominid species have occupied the area for 3 million years.
